Why Lamune? This onsen is named after one of Japan's favourite fizzy drinks, offering a soda soaking experience in one Japan's most unique wellness spots.
Soaking in soda? Well, not quite. The water at Lamune is naturally carbonated, giving guests the chance to bathe surrounded by fizzing bubbles – just like bathing in actual Lamune! Not just quirky for the fun of it, Lamune's carbonated water also holds numerous health benefits – including boosting blood flow, lowering blood pressure and improving heart function.
Located in the village of Nagayu, these onsen are also famous for the buildings they're housed in. Designed by famous architect Terunobu Fujimori, the structures are a perfect example of a modern day take on ancient Japanese technique, with steaming towers of traditionally charred cedarwood and white mortar standing against the calming green of the surrounding pine trees.
