Yunokuni no Mori

Chubu

Ishikawa’s Ancient Handicraft Village

In the south of the Ishikawa Prefecture, nestled in natural forest and next door to Awazu Onsen lies Yunokuni no Mori – Komatsu’s craft village.

Here, visitors can explore a hamlet of 20 traditional Japanese thatched houses containing a wealth of native crafts and master artisans, including an original 100-year-old thatched house relocated to the village. Whether its Kaga yūzen silk printing, washi paper, Wajima lacquerware, Kutani ceramics, Echizen bamboo, gold leaf, glass blowing or Yamanaka woodwork or soba-making, Yunokuni no Mori fully immerses guests into Ishikawa’s traditional art and crafts culture.

For those that wish to turn their hand to some Japanese crafts, there are over 50 different activities and workshops to get guests creating. These include Kutani pottery painting, papermaking, Yuzen dyeing and gold gilding.

Perfect for solo travellers, couples and families alike, Yunokuni no Mori also offers multi-language support, meaning anyone can get involved. And, with classic Japanese sweets, snacks and tea ceremonies, this ancient craft village is the perfect way to get creative and experience the heart and soul of Ishikawa craft.
